The Marais Poitevin
Recognised as a ‘Grand Site de France’ the Marais Poitevin is unique in Europe. It is also the second largest wetland in France, after the Camargue. A unique green landscape criss-crossed by a network of canals. The marshes were first drained in the Middle Ages.
Long comment
For a weekend or short break, visit the Marais Poitevin and immerse yourself in nature. Discover a Green Venice made up of the “wet” marshes, the “dry” marshes and the Bay de l’Aiguillon where the marsh meets the ocean. You can take a punt for a guided tour on the canals, take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage, or cycle around the picturesque villages.
